![]() ![]() At various points during the (too frequent, mostly boring, school play-tier) dialogue, you’ll be able to choose how he acts, in ways replete with such delicate moral nuance as “crush the harmless insect” or “don’t”, and so guide the creature down one path or another. It’s watery, janky, broken, alternately frustrating and frictionless, completely without tension or pathos, and squanders a great concept. It’s a technical disaster, at least on PC, and even when it does work, it feels like an extended forced stealth section from a game where stealth is just one of 50,000 other systems. We went hands-on with the game back in March, and we said, "The Lord of the Rings: Gollum does at least make a good first impression, outlining a solid case for piloting one of the strangest and yet most important characters in the lore.This game never looked especially promising, and now it’s out, it’s about as riveting as listening to a huddle of ents discuss the finer points of deciduous shedding. After a pile of delays, we learned of its current release date earlier this year. ![]() It's been a long road to release for Gollum, as the game was originally scheduled to come out in 2021. The gameplay will also feature elements of stealth and parkour. ![]() Players will sneak around Middle-earth while making choices to align with either the darker Gollum or gentler Sméagol. A Nintendo Switch version is scheduled for sometime later this year. On Thursday, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will launch on PlayStation 5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. IGN has reached out to developer Daedalic Entertainment for comment. There are threads on both Reddit and resetera discussing the leaked footage. The video has since been taken down, but it stayed online for several hours before it was removed.
